Charting the Future: Three Sundays This Fall
· Pastor Ted Carnahan
The next three Charting the Future gatherings move to the second Sunday of the month. The Congregation Council set the dates at its September meeting: October 11, November 8, and December 13, all at 10:15am in the Fellowship Hall, right after worship.
What we’re after in all of it is our core values. Every congregation has them, and they’re usually not written down anywhere. They’re the things that actually shape what we do, and naming them honestly is what lets us make faithful decisions about the ministry God has given us now.
So we have to look in three directions. We need to understand who we have been as a congregation, who we are today, and what we truly desire for the future. That’s the shape of these three Sundays.
On October 11 we’ll take up the past: what God has done among us at Our Savior’s, and what that history says about our ethos as a congregation.
On November 8 we’ll take up the present: what we are actually doing now, and what that says about us.
On December 13 we’ll take up the future: what we long for, and what we believe God is calling us to become.
Everybody needs to be in the room for these. Whether you’ve been part of Our Savior’s for decades or you’re new to the congregation, your voice belongs in this conversation: your memory of what God has done here, and your read on what we are right now. We want to honor our past, be faithful to who God is calling us to be in the present, and dream together about what the future might look like for our congregation. That only works with a lot of voices in the room.
If you’ve missed the earlier gatherings, you are not behind. Come to the next one.
