Walking Out of the Darkness on Saturday

Our Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, Brynn Jordahl, is walking in the Jackson Out of the Darkness Community Walk this Saturday, September 26, and she’d like company.

The walk starts and ends at Ashley Park here in Jackson. Check-in opens at 9:30am, the walk steps off at 10:00am, and the route runs somewhere between one and three miles, so nobody needs to train for it. There’s an opening ceremony, resource tables, activities for hope and healing, and honor beads for everyone who walks.

Out of the Darkness is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s signature event, and walks like this one are happening in communities across the country this fall. Brynn signed on as a team captain and named her team Our Saviors Jackson, so when you register, pick that team and you’ll walk with her. Registration is free. If you’d rather support her from the sidewalk, you can give on her page instead, and every dollar is tax deductible and goes to research, to advocacy, and to education programs in schools and workplaces here in Minnesota.

Suicide is the eleventh leading cause of death in this country, and it has touched our community more than once. Most of us can come up with a name without thinking very hard about it. Saying that out loud, and putting our money and our Saturday mornings behind prevention, is one way we look after the people God has handed to us.
