As an experiment in shared prayer, I am offering a brief Facebook livestream of Morning Prayer daily, (usually, schedule permitting) starting around 8:00am, on the Our Savior’s Facebook page. Jennifer and I have made this ancient pattern of prayer part of our own daily devotion for some time, and we would like to open it to the wider congregation.

What is an Assisting Minister?

This year, one of the things we have been working on is establishing our congregation’s roster of Assisting Ministers who can assist with serving at worship. Our Savior’s, as a descendent of the Norwegian church tradition, inherits a rich tradition of lay participation in worship. We already have acolytes, lectors, and assisting ministers (in a limited way as a function of council members at worship) in our church.

Preparing for Lent

Followers of Jesus are called “disciples” because we are “disciplined” by Jesus. The season of Lent, which begins this Wednesday with the Ash Wednesday service, is a good opportunity to embrace the disciplines of Lent. These disciplines are ways for us to repent of our sins, grow closer to Jesus, and remember how dependent we are on God for everything. These traditional Lenten disciplines are:

Special Offering for Lutheran Disaster Response

Our Savior’s will be collecting a special offering for Lutheran Disaster Response on Saturday and Sunday, January 25-26, 2025 during worship. The money will go to help victims of both the hurricanes in the American South and the recent wildfires in California. Fully 100% of the money raised will go directly to relief efforts with no overhead or administrative costs. Please plan to give generously to support this ministry.

‘Holy Water’ and the Sign of the Cross
